This week is National Volunteers Week. It’s a chance for us to say thank you and to celebrate the tremendous support of our amazing army of volunteers.
As our President, Sue Barker, says in the video – and she speaks on behalf of everyone at Muscular Dystrophy UK – we really could not do all of our important work without you.
Since 1959, volunteers have been at the very heart of all of our achievements. And you’ll continue to be so until we’ve beaten all muscle-wasting conditions.
Here are some fun facts about volunteers. Did you know that:
- volunteers are responsible for raising over a quarter of our income last year. That works out at just over a million pounds.
- a fantastic 1,400 people, of all ages, give up their time to support our work. Without you all, we would not be able to achieve what we do.
- about 50 local Branches – all run by volunteers – have been responsible for raising millions of pounds for our charity for more than 50 years. Many of these long-term volunteers still continue to fundraise and support us.
- our team of volunteers at our London office help us ensure the charity is run as efficiently as possible. If you have ever received a T-shirt, a collection tin, or a sponsor form from Muscular Dystrophy UK, it’s likely to have been sent to you by a volunteer.
The contribution from every single one of you is important to us. We’ll be celebrating all your achievements this week across our social media platforms, you can read Ravi’s, our office and trailblazer volunteer, story today. And thanking many of you personally by phone, email and letter.
On behalf of Sue and everyone here at the charity: thank you so much for your drive, determination and support. It really means the world to us – and the 70,000 people in the UK living with muscle-wasting conditions.
