Lord Walton Fellowship Fund

Lord Walton

The Lord Walton Fellowship Fund has been created to recognise the significant role Lord John Walton made as one of the founders of Muscular Dystrophy UK nearly 60 years ago.  It is also to celebrate his continued loyalty and constant guiding influence on the development of the charity throughout his life.  The fund will support young researchers in their specialisation into neuromuscular conditions.  We are committed to raise £200,000  to support the fund over three years.

“John was much loved and respected as the founder of the charity, a man whose long-term vision, high standards and integrity laid the foundations for our work. We are deeply grateful for John’s huge contribution both to the individuals and families affected by muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular conditions and, of course, to our charity.”

Robert Meadowcroft, CEO of Muscular Dystrophy UK

One of the limiting factors in developing research and conducting trials is the shortage of neuromuscular researchers and clinic specialists.  The Lord Walton Fellowship Fund will continue John’s fantastic work by driving forward the research he worked so hard to develop, ensuring momentum is maintained.  It will see treatments developed and progressed to clinical trial to benefit the families affected by muscular dystrophy and other related neuromuscular conditions.

We continue to work with world-class researchers and won’t stop until we find treatments and cures for all our conditions.  By encouraging new scientists into our field in this way, we can accelerate progress in research, today and in the longer term, to find treatments and ultimately cures for these devastating conditions.  Lord Walton was passionate about raising funds for research and there is still much more to be done. We know we can beat muscle-wasting conditions more quickly by working together.
