Lego and lockdown - 2020 reflections from Emily Bonner

So here we are in lockdown 2.0 as some refer to it, though for me it’s pretty much life as normal, apart from the sun setting way too early for my liking. It’s literally 3.30pm as I write this but the sun is just tinkering there on the horizon.

I have been reflecting back on 2020, which really has been a year of self-discovery and growth. Who knew that hardly leaving the house for 12 months would actually open up so many doors for me - allowing me to connect to the rest of the world  - albeit virtually?

On the other hand I am finding getting about both inside and outside more challenging than it was a year ago. Perhaps I’ll talk about my shimmying around furniture and along walls at a later date! One thing for sure is that if my house is ever swept for finger prints you’ll be able to trace my tracks and wonder what the heck I was at!

Getting about outside right now is another story, for another day, but basically work and physio are out of the question due to my instability and increased difficulty in walking.

But one of the really big doors that did open for me this year was the forming of new relationships and making new friends. I feel very blessed for those that I’ve come to know.

I literary met a bunch of crazies just like me on the back of on our online yoga practice, which I started  this Spring.

Our craziness may be one of the things we have in common but we are from different walks of life and my new group spreads right across the globe. We cover four continents and seven countries! And I’m proud to say I can now swear fluently in Romanian.

We have such a strong and unique bond and all believe there is a reason for us coming together. I’ve never laughed so hard so often as this year which is kinda ironic, given the circumstances.

In this group though, we are all just being ourselves, with nothing to prove. We don’t judge and we lose our inhibitions and let our hair down, have fun and be silly.

I call it embracing the inner-child! Which is why on a side note.... I’ve brought myself Lego to build this Christmas! It’s a Ducati Panigale, so you know, not just any old Lego! I won’t talk too much about the ‘Art Attack’ I did in the shower with a colourful bath bomb. Neil Buchanan eat your heart out!

We call ourselves Bulls - it’s a long standing joke formed whilst we all participated in a push up challenge, if you huff like a bull then that helps with push-ups!

Never mind the push-ups though, I can be found sounding like a bull just trying to get myself back to standing after bending over to pick up something I’ve dropped on the floor.

We also have nicknames and I am the speedy bull obviously there’s irony there as well! Although this could be argued when I’m on my beast of a mobility scooter blasting down the main road through the village at 8mph! Yeah I’ve worn my bull horns doing that as well...

Remember though "your direction is more important that your speed!"
