Colleen and Jamie Pentony have set up Fight for Alfie Fund to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy UK’s Duchenne Research Breakthrough Fund.

Alfie, was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy when he was three years old.  After a difficult journey consisting of numerous trips back and forth from the hospital, countless blood tests and biopsies, Alfie was finally diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Colleen said

Then came the news no parents want to hear… he does have Duchenne muscular dystrophy

The family have rallied together and have been busy raising vital funds to support research work into effective treatments for Alfie and other boys affected by Duchenne. Since Fight for Alfie was set up they have raised over £17,000 to fund pioneering research.

Colleen also said

We have felt every emotion you can imagine over the last few months but there is one that keeps us going … DETERMINATION

The family have a strong network of family, friends and members of the local community. With their own committee they have held events as varied as a New Year’s Day swim, coffee mornings and breakfasts, White Collar boxing matches and skydives around the world. Coming up for 2018 – 2019 Fight for Alfie have collections and a Halloween fun day planned, and are even thinking of their own Gala Ball!
