Josh McClean lives in Ballymoney Northern Ireland with his parents Dave and Mandy and his sister Rebecca. Josh loves lego, computer games and going to watch ice hockey games with his Dad. Josh’s family describe him as a very special and positive wee boy.

Josh had a routine assessment before starting school at the Child Development Centre and was referred on for more tests. Dave and Mandy had noticed that Josh had been struggling with stairs so when they described the symptoms to Josh’s Aunt, who is a doctor, she had mentioned the tests could be for muscular dystrophy.

This meant that when the diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy came it was hard to hear but we had expected it. Dave decided that day he would run a marathon to raise money for research even though he had never ran more than 5 miles before!”

The care Josh has received has been fantastic and we are grateful to live in an area where he can benefit from regular physiotherapy and hydrotherapy.”

With Just for Josh the McClean family have now raised over £25,000 for research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Dave has now run the Dublin and Belfast marathons and persuaded many friends and family to take on the challenge of raising as much as possible with runs and challenge events! The family have organised a popular quiz night and hold an annual golf day at Galgorm Castle.

Net proceeds of the fundraising will go towards research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy
