Graham and Laura’s son Rhys was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy just after his 2nd birthday in 2015. Rhys loves racing cars, playing outside in the park and dinosaurs! He is a determined and inquisitive little boy who always manages to do things in his own way. The family has set up Together for Rhys to raise awareness and raise money for Muscular Dystrophy UK’s Duchenne Research Breakthrough Fund.
Following a bad virus, routine blood tests revealed some unusual results. After further tests and assessments, Rhys was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy at a meeting with a consultant.
Graham and Laura found it difficult to take in this devastating news and felt like their lives had changed in an instant.
They wanted to do something for Rhys after the diagnosis, so they decided to set up this fund.
Setting up a family fund will allow us to channel our energy into something positive in what is an otherwise uncertain future for him.
After being put in contact with a Muscular Dystrophy UK care advisor, they found it useful to talk to someone about the condition. The charity was able to provide information and support to help the family through this difficult time.
The family is looking forward to organising and being part of many events to raise as much money as possible, hopefully helping to fund research into future treatments and even a cure.
