The Department of Clinical Neuroscience – which includes both neurology and neurosurgery – is currently sited at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. The department has three wards, operating theatres, diagnostic services and outpatient clinics. Neurology outpatients are also seen at St John’s Hospital in Livingston, the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Roodlands Hospital and Leith Community Treatment Centre.

The East of Scotland adult neuromuscular service is supported by the Scottish Muscle Network. The Scottish Muscle Network (SMN) is a national managed clinical network (NMCN) originally established in 1998 with charitable funding from the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. The SMN is now funded by NHS National Services Division (NSD).

How can the service be accessed

Patients can be referred to the service by a consultant or GP.
