Changing Places toilets

Two-thirds of NHS trusts in England do not have a Changing Places toilet, according to findings from 5 News.

The news programme – which ran a story this evening featuring interviews with campaigners and our Head of Policy and Campaigns, Clare Lucas – also found that nearly half of those trusts have not applied for Government funding to install a Changing Places facility.

This funding is being made available by the Department for Health and Social Care, which is inviting applications from hospitals in England for a share of £2 million.

Clare said:

It’s incredibly disappointing that almost a third of NHS Trusts have not applied for Government funding to install Changing Places toilets. It is crucial that hospitals have fully accessible Changing Places toilets so that people can attend important appointments or visit friends and family.

What can you do?

There is still time to apply for funding, and we would strongly encourage all trusts to do so. You can find out more about this here. Please note applications must come from NHS trusts.

If you are a campaigner and your local hospital does not have a Changing Places facility, we would encourage you to get in touch to tell them about the funding that is available.
