Free online physio sessions for people with muscle-wasting conditions

Join us for two online sessions with neuromuscular physiotherapist Marina Di Marco, where you can ask questions about movement and activity and hear practical tips about creating an exercise routine.

The virtual sessions will take place on Tuesday 22 September, and will last for 45 to 60 minutes. The first one, which takes place at 1.30pm, will be talking about the practicalities of a seated session, while the second takes place at 2.30pm and will help those interested in a standing session.

Marina will set the scene by talking about exercise in general, followed by some practical tips and advice. You will also have the chance, should you wish, to share and discuss your experiences with other participants.

Marina says:

Some people have not had the usual amount of support from family members and siblings while they are shielding due to the fact visiting has been so limited, and as a result, we know that many people with a neuromuscular condition are starting to feel aches and pains and issues with their posture and joint tightness that they didn’t have before.

If this is you, or if you would simply like to find out about what activity and movement you can do during these challenging times, then please do join us for one of two interactive webinars we are holding.

Lockdown has slowed the pace of life for many people which has given us more time to think about our health. As shops, bars and restaurants open and people return to work, many thousands of people in the muscular dystrophy community are continuing to shield and feel anxious about going out.

During this time, we can all start to take small steps to encourage positive changes in our lives.

Marina is based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, and works with children and adults with muscle-wasting conditions.

As well as being the lead clinician for the Scottish Muscle Network, supporting research and education throughout Scotland since November 2013, Marina is involved in training physiotherapists for research trials globally, and also presents on standards of care at international workshops.

Muscular Dystrophy UK's Head of Information, Advocacy and Support, Neeru Naik says:

We are very grateful to be partnering with Marina, one of the UK’s leading physiotherapists, to offer these sessions.

We know it's been a difficult time for people with muscle-wasting conditions. Many people may not have been able to attend appointments as usual, or will not have had the same support at home. We hope these sessions are useful, and we encourage you to sign up.
