Good luck to our London Marathon runners!

On Sunday 23 April, around 100 runners will be taking on the Virgin Money London Marathon for Muscular Dystrophy UK. We want to say a huge good luck and thank you to everyone in #TeamOrange this year!

Not only have our runners been busy training all year, they’ve also been hard at work fundraising. Together, #TeamOrange is on track to raise a massive £250,000 for Muscular Dystrophy UK! That’s enough to fund over four years of pioneering research to find treatments for muscle-wasting conditions.

Our runners’ families or friends have all been affected by muscle-wasting conditions in some way, including Stacey, from Devon. Stacey is running in memory of her brother Jason. Stacey says:

This is my first ever marathon! I’m running for my brother Jason who sadly passed away in 1991 at the age of 3, after being diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy. Although I was only a baby and have no memory of Jason, I have grown up with the after effects the loss of a child has had on my family. Muscular Dystrophy UK do absolutely amazing work to help support people and families dealing with muscle-wasting conditions and I have always wanted to do something to help raise money in memory of Jason.

The journey of training and fundraising has been emotional for not only me, but all my family, who deeply miss Jason. I’m so excited to run for Muscular Dystrophy UK and I’m so grateful for all my sponsors helping me to raise over £6,000 so far! On the 23rd April I will be proud to be moving my muscles for those who can’t. The phrase most meaningful to me at this moment is ‘Run with the angels’ as, although Jason could not walk, we like to think he can now.

We rely on enthusiastic volunteers to cheer on Stacey and the other runners, and show them how much we appreciate what they are doing, and what a massive difference they are making.

Muscular Dystrophy UK will have three cheer points at Tower Bridge, Canary Wharf and Embankment. We’d love as many people as possible to join us to give our team all the encouragement they can. Plus the atmosphere will be electric and it’s a fantastic day out!

You can find the exact locations on our cheer points along the route by downloading the map as a PDF, or check out the points on this Google map.
