    Back to the workhouse…

Harassing people on benefits degrades us all
The repugnant moral rhetoric about benefit claimants echoes Victorian prejudices about the ‘undeserving poor’, writes Peter Beresford…

    Thanks……..right on the point.

The first paragraph sums it up perfectly :-

“Arguments about the “deserving” and “undeserving” poor characterised the poor law from its earliest days. They underpinned the popular fear and loathing of the workhouse that endure in folk memory. A key concern of the creators of the postwar welfare state was to put an end to such cruel moral distinctions. But now, and with a terrible irony, it looks as if the coalition government’s welfare reforms may be undoing that action. For the first time, the government seems to be treating everyone on benefits as “undeserving” – unless and until they can convince a draconian assessment system otherwise.”

I have commented on this latest cif thread, i comment on all benefit related threads i come across.

I have said it before, and will keep on like a broken record, all those who cheerlead the removal of State Benefit, will find themselves penniless, if they too become disabled in the future.

The bottom line is, no-one can predict when the axe will fall, i was twenty eight before i got the bad news.

Wow, you have certainly told him.

    Well Said !!!!

The fact his name was Kiwijon was a good indication that he did not
understand our system or the issues involved.

This is part of the problem so many people without the understanding of
the issues blindly making comments often swept up by the spin and rhetoric
    of the right wing press.

Amazing – Ranald has got him !!!

At 12.16 PM Kiwijohn has backed down and admitted Ranald and the
    article author are right.

This shows how when faced with the truth people realise it
was all just Tory spin and the disabled are real people.

Have thrown a few home truths at Kiwijon to make the point.

Not a good sign if the Grauniad is taking money from these people.

    Re: Back to the workhouse…

Saw the lady in a box advert and the man whipping table cloth advert and something struck me … the sentence “Paid through your employer” … okay so what is wrong with that statement.

    1. You gotta be in work [probably full-time] to pay into the scheme.
    2. You still got to be in employ to receive the monies [derisory amounts though they shall be]
    3. If you are already paying out National Insurance contributions on your wages, why pay out again to get something that will exclude you from other assistance.

It seems to me that those who are not in work will still have the same struggles, those who can easily afford such schemes can easily afford to pay into the scheme sufficient to get their wage amount out already earn enough to ‘save’ for such problems and them poor buggers in the middle will be bled dry and misled.

Did that make sense, it did in my head but that is so unreliable.

    AMG makes sense……perfect sense.

These people are selling the people of our country what we already had
till the Welfare Reform Bill made sickness payment limited to 12 months.

Also right that we are the small fry, they will make billions out of terrifying working people
with the fact that the state no longer accepts that people have long term illness. Every
scare story in the Guardian will make them profit.

    We are already toast !

Hey, the Grauniad circulation is dipping below the quarter million, they need as much extra revenue as they can get! It is no different than my old divorce site advertising Match.com!

    (they really did as well)
