Becker muscular dystrophy problems with dizziness

    Hello I’m new on here.
My husband has been having blurred vision lately and dizzyness as his ability to walk is getting worse. He barely walks apart from at home . We went to the doctors who said he probably has vertigo. He feel very dizzy when he is stood up and closes his eyes. The blurred vision started in one eye for
twenty minutes then goes . Then the other day it was the other eye.
    Does anyone know if they
have had this happen as part of the condition.
We are due to see his specialist in two weeks which his doctor has advised . If anyone has any advise I would be most grateful. very worrying .
    My husband is 50.

Hello and welcome to the forum, sadly under such difficult circumstances. May I say fist of all that vertigo is a symptom and not a cause if you have a look at this

it should help you understand. It is not unusual for people to feel dizzy when they close their eyes or the light goes out, in a number of conditions including simple middle ear problems. Correctly your doctor has sent him on to a specialist, hopefully a hearing and balance specialist (ENT). Sometimes balance can be affected like that from MD. For example I have FHSD which makes my legs weak. These also contain what are called kinaesthetic responses and a vital part of keeping balance. If the legs are affected then so might balance. The vision problem is something else entirely. I am not aware that Beckers can affect eyesight although as eyes are controlled by muscles it is not impossible I would imagine. There are also some varieties of MD which do affect the eyes. So I think you can see that this is a complex picture which needs an intervention from a specialist to pull all these strings together. I would suggest that you try and encourage him to walk as much as he can, even if he has to use sticks, to keep the strength in his legs as high as possible.

Thanks so much for your reply .Will have a look at the vertigo. Hopefully the specialist will advise a lot too. He tried walking round the house with two sticks today which was better.
