Disabled access to me house at last.

7 Years since I was able to do stairs solo
    6 years after first request
5 years after first appeal on refusal
4 years sinces I could do stairs by myself

6 months after idea of some sort of lift and related large scale buildng work agreed.
4 months after plans made and platform lift agreed
3 months after company quote tendered

    2 weeks with the builders

fingers and toes crossed that I will have building work finished and a platform lift installed on Monday. :D

and 7 years of battle later I will be able to come and go, regargdless of peeps being home to help. (well thats the idea anyway ;) )

looking at the plan today, I dont think Im getting what was orignaly talked about. the leaflet given on the sight visit pre teneder for all 3 companies was a Terry lift melody 2 but on the drawn plan left while I was out on friday its a terry TSL1000. :? me hopes it will be ok. the Melody is a level entry with gate (which I liked as it would keep out horride children) the TSL 1000 has an auto mini drop down ramp, its a plus that the entry on this lift is auto but I hope I dont have issues steping over mini ramp or that its not to slippy for my walker or walking stickes. :? paranoid much

Annoying isn’t it when something on a plan is changed and it is probably an admin error … mine was … the lift they are fitting s probably their #1 fit and you had probably requested their #2 fit but tender typer did not notice. That is what happened with my wet room flooring and the wrong one was fitted, culdn’t get it rectified either.

I know I am shooting myself in the foot saying this, but I ‘assume’ the flooring of both lifts would be the same, silly I know, I’ll go load the bullets, lol.

Fingers and all else crossed that Monday sees you zipping up and down those stairs [but not like the lady in Gremlins movie]

    Good Luck Cat

Hope the stairlift is as required not the cheaper option they deem to give you.

Likewise I wish no stories about gremlins moments when you take your first zip up the stairs :D

I hope never to get to that stage but just in case may be I should start a bungalow fund just now

    Hi Cat,
I’ve just looked on the Terry website and can see what you mean about the 2 different lifts. The one with the gate would be preferable….I can understand you getting a bit paranoid about it all. I would be too. But when the installers arrive tomorrow, just ask them first what they are providing you with and if it’s not what you want or is unsuitable you must tell them. After all, you have to think of your safety first and if they’ve made a mistake on the paperwork you shouldn’t have to live with the results.

I hope all goes well, Cat. Keep us posted!

Cant get ahold of the OT, her office claims the dont have her mobile pphone numer, yeh right- pull the other one.

was on to the company too, and they claim thats what was quoted for. they say the other lift is for comericel use, but it dont say that on the web and thats the lift the other very details quote from the other company planed to put in. luckly I still have the other companys emails with pictures and discussion on lifts and building ideas and the faster than this lot. their quote been in since last november. the company doing the work oly quoted the end of January. dosnt fill me with confidance.

looking on the bright side and keeping in mind my churchhill qoute ” “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

And the 2 men doing the building work have done a lovely job. I may even post a picky when their done :D

    cat
now where did I put the prozac

Just talked to the OT. they are putting in the much cheaper USED lift option. cost of lift im getting is £2000 rather than £13000, I dread to think what the conditon and look of it will be like.

they are fitting it regardless of the suitability. its this or nothing. And they are sayin I can only ever use it in a chair.

they other lift the Terry Melody (the one I was told I was getting) was suitable for less able and wheelchair users.

so it cost me personally thousands for the building work to get a council funded scabby second hand lift I could have problems using.

Sounds like they’ve messed you about, catatude, sorry to hear it…

But one possible ray of light is that that the through-floor lift that we had installed in our house ten years or so ago has big signs on it saying that it can only be used in a chair. But when I was still able to stand reasonably securely, I ignored that, and always used to stand up in it, and never came to any harm. So maybe you’ll be able to use yours in the same way. As long as you don’t let the health and safety people know… ;)

its the lack of safety gate and floor material type that makes this one a none standy up lift. but as this lift can be fitted with special stairs that raise to become a platform(picture the top treds of an escalator)

but as you say petered, what they dont see ;) no option but to wait and see what turns up. but basically they were waiting for someone to die to off load me with a second hand lift so that they had the cheaper quote. The OT was clueless of what they had planned to bring the quote entered to OT just stated “platform lift” but she fully suport that this was a suitable lift for me to have as I was only ment to have it if I was a full time wheelchair user.

Wheelchair services appointment tommorow- we will see how that goes

Good luck with it, hope it works out for you.

The bloke who comes to service my lift told me that he’d just been to service another through-floor in a council-owned property, and found that the new tenants didn’t need the lift so were using it for storage. It was so full of stuff that he couldn’t service it. In the immortal words of Ian Dury, “What a waste…”

:o :o :o :o shocking when you think of how long people struggle without it and the hoops to jump, crawl or wheel over. getting adaptations should be a olympic event.

my locally authority has been known to remove aids like stairslifts etc if they feel they are being abused by user. on our engineer service forms there is even a box “user abuse”. but on the other hand they have also been known to leave stair lifts in houses that someone has passed away in. my neighbours son had to wait months after his mother moved onto a nursing home to get her lift etc removed so he could sell the house.
