    holidays to the far east

Hi guys….and gals :D , I’ve got a flight booked for manila in the filippines in april 2013 and was wondering if anyone had any experiance of holidays in that region…and with MD. I have had Bethlam for looks like 48 years…. got diagnosed with duchenne and emery dreifus previously but i think they got it right finally  . I just wondered whats best when using an electric chair.I dont fancy taking my ruby electric wheelchair due to its age and range limitations, is it better to hire in uk and take or hire somewhere in filippines( i have no idea where). Also insurance seems to be about £300+ for 21 days…. is that normal or reasonable? I would appreciate any help or advice. thanks tony :)

    How exciting and adventurous.

Have you tried internet searching for hire equipment in the Philippines? You may find issues with what they have and what you need …. but by contrast you may find difficulty with being able to take a hired electric wheelchair out of the country or have the equipment/adaptors to be able to recharge it. Even some Hotels are dubious and unhelpful at someone powering themselves up at their expense, you may need to contact your hotel to clarify with them.

My advice would be to research hiring in this country and get the hire costs quoted, including insurance for over seas useage. Also contact your airline they will have VERY specific guildelines as to what they can and cannot load into their aircraft.

Insurance – It sounds a reasonable sum for where you are going, with the medical condition that you have, considering what some people have been quoted for relatively straight forward European travel.

hi. with regards to hire in philippines i did search extensively online with your friend and ours…GOOGLE…. but to no joy. Luckily i dont have to worry about hotels we are staying at friends and family. I’m still looking and im going to see if buying £500 2nd hand chair and selling it on return is going to be better value and more practical etc. On the plus side there are letting me take 40kg of luggage using kuwait airways. For your info i had to do a fitness to fly at the brompton hospital in central london and this seems to be stricter than 10 years ago when i did it. considering that they said i was better now they have told me to use oxygen thru out the flight rather than when i sleep only. well at least they havent stopped me flying…..yet! thanks for advice any more is welcomed.

Insurance companies rarely need reasons to charge more, they can find all the ways and loops to do so.
