    Inclusion Body Myositis

    Hi Everyone

I have IBM and I walk as much as possible and do exercises to keep going. I suffer badly from the fear of falling as if it happens I cannot get up. This means I am not at ease walking alone and it prevents me from going out as often as I would like. Does anyone have any suggestions? I always carry my mobile phone as a back up.

In addition I am thinking about getting an exercise bike which I could use when the weather gets bad and icy. I hear that too much exercise can cause more problems with IBM. Any views please?

    Thanks

After first few fun falls I started using a stick. At that point I didn’t need it to weight bear just to even up my stance and for uneven ground and kerbs. It’s also a good visual to others to be carful walking by you and if you take a tumble a clue that you aint drunk.

Another good way to exercise walking muscled is walking within a swimming pool. You are supported and swimming also good. Ideally a hydrotherapy pool as heat is good but walking in local pool good in winter when you can walk outside.
