I got all excited when I heard on the radio that food parcels were being sent out to the “shielded group”, that is those who got a letter and were told to stay indoors for 12 weeks. It turns out this only applies to those living in England! You have to apply via gov.uk

No nice biscuits or pasta for me!

Ranald, please contact your council direct in Scotland.

My region has been actively tweeting and facebooking etc. Scotland may not have the .gov online registration but they do appear to have stuff getting set up. Check your Councils web pages as well.

Regards the letters. My mum’s friend has received hers but I have not (same Scottish town as mine). Shes disabled with COPD, plus other ailments and in the ‘older’ age group. It may just mean they haven’t got to our age group or conditions. Call your Council. In Scotland we have the NHS and social care partnership so council and health care is merged for many resources.

Was that David Livingstone or David Lidington? The latter is a KCB holder (order of the bath). I wonder if he got that for claiming shower gel on his MPs expenses?

I wasn’t worried, Cat, thanks all the same, but more wanting to make other members aware of the situation; I am able to drive to my nearest supermarket.

I note from recent BBC news broadcasts that the “vulnerable” group may be more vulnerable than we think. Those who are older, and those who have underlying health conditions, or both, may longer have access to ventilators should they need them as doctors will be advised to give available ventilators to the young and those with a greater chance of survival. An absolutely horrendous situation for a doctor to find themselves in. Also tends to emphasise the need for us older and vulnerable folk to stay away from it all until it has gone.

My friend Jon was on BBC news yesterday. Here is his YouTube video in full. I am grateful to him for saying this.

    Allocation of scarce resources……

…..is this what we have come to?

Much smaller issue but symptomatic…… Even the blessed supermarkets
still will not give priority on home delivery to vulnerable and
housebound people. Just a free for all with a vague, shop if you actually
can message tacked on the end.

For me the situation is getting increasingly difficult for disabled folk. Small example, myself and carer went shopping to ASDA. They refused to let her help me at the checkout as there would be too many people there and it was against “regulations”.
I have heard the NW Ambulance have been told not to use ventilators on old people who may have the virus, that claim is still being investigated.
Now we are beginning to see how valued disabled people are. Jo was quite right in his video, his life is important, but gradually it is becoming apparent that it is not. When did we last hear such thoughts about disabled people?
We are facing yet another example of abuse towards those of us who are different to ‘normal’. God help us all.

Sorry if this confuses, but my post in response to you disappeared!

Well Cat, the 16 page letter from the Scottish Government, it does ask us to stay in for 12 weeks from receipt of the letter.
You text the automated reply your CHI number, as given on the letter, and this is supposed to activate your application for assistance. You can then text “BOX1 or BOX2”, depending on for how many people, to the same SMS number, this activating your desire for weekly food parcels.
This is all depending on the system actually recognising your CHI number! I have such rotten luck with things like this, hopefully be sorted out next week.
