Re: What Is On Your Ipod Today

3 AM, another disturbed night. So I am listening to music.

I have about 20 tracks that sound great at very low volume
as I do not want to upset the neignbours.

Tonight Van Morrison – Autumn Song. He starts off singing
gently about Autmn leaves and colours and gradually over
eleven minutes just gets softer and softer, quieter and quieter.

“Leaves of brown they fall to the ground
And it’s here, over there leaves abound
Shut the door, dim the lights and relax
What is more, your desire or the facts

Pitter patter the rain falling down
    Little glamor sun coming round
Take a walk when autumn comes to town”

Life seems simple with no worries tonight!

Today I am mostly listening to the Ramones.

With a bit of Ian Dury thrown in. Oh, and some Thin Lizzy.

Bruno Mars is my choice for today. Have just watched a sad film so have needed something a bit upbeat and turned up loud.

    Sorry ClaireF,
since last week this album has vanished from Spotify.

Spotify has about 90 % of what you would ever want to
listen to but contractual issues do come up.

Which albums of his would you recommend as a starting point?

Very impressed you are getting “Hardnose the Highway”, great tracks
all through. You will not believe “Snow in San Anselmo”

Well there are over 35 to choose from so there is plenty of choice. Most
people suggest starting with his first two “Astral Weeks” and “Moondance”. They
are both critically aclaimed and so different, one being string based, the other brass based.

“Veedon Fleece” is a beautiful suite of soft Irish songs. “St Dominics Perview” completely
different with American themes. Of the later albums “The Healing Game” is peerless.
“Days Like This” is just beautiful and the title track was seriously suggested as
    the Irish National Anthem.

Aslo of course “It’s Too late To Stop Now” is generally regarded as the greatest
    live album ever recorded.

    Good Stuff

I keep listening to Into the mystic over and over. I really like that song.

The first two verses of “Into The Mystic” are just sublime.

    Perfection.

    My favourite.

“Angeliou” on album ” Into The Music”.

Seem to have been awake for hours, so I am playing
my music that sounds great on low volume. must not
    upset the neighbours.

    “BLUE” by Joni Mitchell

is just so mellow and laid back it sounds just great at a whisper.

Includes the original accoustic version of the rock classic
    “This Flight Tonight”.

Life does not seem so complicated when all you are worrying
about is trying to get to sleep.

By the way, where the devil are Woogy and Ranald? Hope they
    are OK.

They were. It was funny on the night though as they supported XTC if I remember rightly, and the people who had gone to see XTC were bemused by the Cramps.

Found some great new music with this thread. Thanks peeps.
    Love Elliott Smith.

    Livening things up.

What are the three greatest Albums of Alltime.

    IMHO……..

    VEEDON FLEECE……………………..Van Morrison.
    BLOOD ON THE TRACKS……………..Bob Dylan.
THE HISSING OF SUMMER LAWNS…..Joni Mitchell.
    ASTRAL WEEKS……………………..Van Morrison.

I know that is four, but so so good.

Unless of course you know different (only three allowed).

    The Clash: London Calling
The Pogues: Rum, Sodomy and the Lash
Bruce Springsteen: either Darkness on the Edge of Town or Nebraska (depending on what mood I’m in)

Having said that, I’d find it hard to omit The Rolling Stones’ Beggar’s Banquet
I’ve left out Bob Marley & The Wailers’ Legend, just because it’s a “best of”, and I don’t think those should be allowed.

If I were allowed a fourth, though, it would probably be The Hold Steady: Boys and Girls in America, which is an absolute classic.
Or if I’m in a folkie mood, either Bellowhead’s Burlesque or Kate Rusby’s Hourglass

And still there needs to be room for Patti Smith. Darn it, this is too hard. I need to think some more about it.

    My question for everyone:
What’s the best album or song you have recently discovered?

If you cannot come up with three greatest albums, I will have three more.

Paradise and Lunch – RY COODER
The Healing Game – VAN MORRISON
    Can’t Buy A Thrill – STEELY DAN

Before I get accused of being an old hippy,
My best recently discovered album is

    Either / Or ELLIOTT SMITH

    Recommended on this thread.
    Thanks.
