How to access the service
If you would like your child to be seen by the Neurology service, you should contact your hospital consultant, and they will be able to refer your child if needed.
You can also seek referral as an adult or child via your GP.

Paediatric Neurology Consultant
Sandya Tirupathi who is one of the three Paediatric Neurologists, leads the neuromuscular service in Northern Ireland. Her primary goal is to strive for better care for children and young adults with neuromuscular problems and hopes to achieve this with coordinated networking between the regional and community teams.
Professor Mike Shields
Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine
Professor Mike Shields is a consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine as well as being a Professor of Child Health at Queen's University Belfast. Professor Shields holds research interests in non-invasive monitoring of airways inflammation in asthma children and using modern technology for rapid point of care testing of respiratory and serious bacterial infections in children.

Isobel Douglas is the Regional Neuromuscular Nurse Specialist based in Belfast. Isobel supports children and young adults with neuromuscular disorders living in Northern Ireland, and is based in the Neurology Department at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.
