TODDLER Study: Transforming Outcomes in Duchenne muscular dystrophy using Digital Endpoints Remotely
Research Institution: University of Oxford
Type: Clinical trial, in person and other (Oxford)
Description: The STRONG Team, led by Professor Laurent Servais and Dr Fiona Moultrie, is studying the best way to measure movement in young boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Better movement measures could help researchers test new treatments earlier, before significant muscle damage occurs. The study uses a wearable ankle device (the Syde® device) that tracks movement during everyday activities. Already used in trials for children over four, the team is now exploring whether it can also be used in children under four and how it compares with other movement assessments.
Inclusion criteria: Cohort 1: For participants with DMD, he must be: a boy with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, 1-3 years old, able to walk 10 metres without help. Cohort 2: For control participants without DMD, he must be: a boy 1-3 years old, able to walk 10 metres without help.
Recruitment start date: 24/06/2026
