We were disappointed to learn of Servier’s announcement this week that the Phase 3 GRAND CANYON trial of sevasemten in Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) did not meet its primary endpoint or secondary endpoints.
Update on the GRAND CANYON trial of sevasemten for Becker muscular dystrophy
What do we know so far?
The company has reported that the trial did not show that sevasemten improved the main measures used to assess the treatment’s effectiveness. However, the company also reported that the treatment continued to have a favourable safety profile during the study.
We know this news will be disappointing for many people and families affected by Becker muscular dystrophy, particularly those who have been closely following the development of sevasemten and those who took part in the trial. We want to sincerely thank everyone who participated in the study. Clinical trials are only possible because of the commitment of participants, families and carers, and every trial helps researchers learn more about a condition, even when the results are not what was hoped for.
Servier has said that these findings are different from some earlier studies of sevasemten. The company is now carrying out a more detailed analysis of all the trial data to understand the results more fully. Full findings from the study will be shared at a later date.
What next?
We are in contact with the company and will continue to seek updates as more information becomes available. We expect further information to be released in the coming months and will share updates with the community when we can.
If you are taking part in the trial or have recently participated, and have questions about what these results mean for you personally, we encourage you to contact your trial site or study team directly. They will be best placed to provide advice about your individual circumstances.
Support for the BMD community
We also recognise that members of the Becker muscular dystrophy community may have questions that cannot yet be answered. If there are particular issues or questions that you would like raised as we continue our discussions with the company, please get in touch with our Research team.
Most importantly, we want our community to know that we are here for you. News like this can bring uncertainty, frustration and disappointment, and we encourage anyone with concerns to reach out to us for information and support.
We will continue to keep the community informed as further details about the GRAND CANYON trial become available.
