Changing Places

Since 2017 we have been proud to co-chair the Changing Places consortium. Established in 2005, the consortium is a group of organisations and individuals in the UK who facilitate the Changing Places Campaign.

About the campaign

At the heart of the campaign is the call for Changing Places toilets to be installed in all big public spaces so that people can access their community. Many people don’t give visiting public buildings a second thought. However, some disabled people are unable to go out or take part in activities many take for granted because standard accessible toilets do not meet their needs – or the needs of their carers and families.

Changing Places toilets are different from standard accessible toilets as they provide an adult-sized changing bench, hoist, more space and a peninsular toilet.

Campaign sucesses

The Changing Places campaign has been very successful in getting more toilets installed across the UK and in November 2023 the consortium registered the 2,000th Changing Places toilet. In 2025 the Changing Places consortium marks its 20th anniversary, a great opportunity to celebrate all that’s been achieved and to explore the changing needs of the Changing Places community.
