In April 2025, for the first time, our London Marathon team included two people taking part as assisted wheelchair participants after they were successful in the ballot for places. We caught up with Konstantina and Simone who completed the 2025 London Marathon, each accompanied by a team of four support runners.
Meet our first London Marathon wheelchair participants

Konstantina, 25, from Oxfordshire
Living with Ullrich muscular dystrophy, I never thought I would be running/wheeling in a marathon, but I could not be happier that I had this experience. I was joined by my partner Cameron, his dad, my sister and my dad and it felt special being part of Team MDUK, giving something back to the community.
“The charity has supported me in so many ways; I wanted to be able to say thank you and raise money to support people with similar conditions to mine.”
Simone, 37, from Essex
It meant the world to me to be able to take part in the London Marathon. I live with a rare muscle weakening condition, GNE myopathy, and before I started getting symptoms in my early 20s I really enjoyed running.
“I’ve always liked watching the marathon on TV and have been there to support in person as well, but being able to take part with my family was the most amazing experience.”
I had my mum, stepdad, sister and uncle alongside me as my support team and feel very privileged to have been able to take part in the London Marathon and raise money for MDUK. It feels quite surreal now, and I’ve been overwhelmed by all the support we’ve had from friends, family and colleagues. I’m just so proud of myself and the team for doing it and, now that the race wheelchairs are available from MDUK.
“I hope that other people living with muscle wasting conditions will get to experience this amazing day.”
It’s so important for these events to be as inclusive as possible and I feel very lucky to have been able to take part.

Our race wheelchairs
We’d like to say a special thank you to an anonymous donor for funding the specialist running wheelchairs and to Delichon Ltd for working with us to supply them. These wheelchairs enabled Konstantina and Simone to take part in the 2025 TCS London Marathon and are now available for future Team MDUK race participants.
A limited number of assisted wheelchair places for the TCS London Marathon are available through a ballot.
