A silent 26 minutes is youngsters’ biggest challenge

One pair of supporters are taking on a range of activities to raise money for MDUK.

Running round the street backwards for 26 minutes, picking 26 daisies, shooting 26 netballs and running up and down steps 26 times are among the 2.6 Challenges set to Leyland youngsters Keeley, 11, and Connor, 9, Scott.

But mum Nikita, who is super proud of her kids’ fundraising for Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK), said their biggest challenge, and the thing she’s most looking forward to, is them being quiet for 26 minutes!

Keeley and Connor,  who lost their grandmother to fascioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSH) and whose aunt, Alannah, lives with the same condition, have supported Muscular Dystrophy UK since their mum launched a family fund with  MDUK for she and her three sisters:  Succeeding for Sandra.

Now the youngsters are asking their supporters to nominate and donate for one or both of them to do any 2.6 related activity as part of this Sunday’s 2.6 Challenge, set by organisers of the Virgin London Marathon, to replace fundraising for this crucial annual event.

Nikita said

People are being brilliantly supportive. Keeley and Connor have already asked to run up and down steps 26 times, recite the five times table in full in under 26 seconds, bake 26 cakes, learn 26 yoga positions and randomly, eat a doughnut without licking their lips.

They have also been asked to memorise pi to 26 digits, which will need some practising!

Chief Executive of MDUK, Catherine Woodhead, said the new heroes in this crisis are not just the key workers we clap every Thursday, but also the many ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Those heroes are the folk running driveway marathons; kids baking a difference; people sharing isolation experiences; clinicians providing guidance; campaigners maintaining the rights of individuals regardless of their health conditions; and the volunteers offering their help. Wherever you are, we are with you as we face this pandemic together.

Catherine explained

We face the biggest threat in our 60 years, with a funding gap of £2.8m, just when our help is most critically needed. We are asking people to support our urgent appeal so we can continue to support the 70,000 people in the UK who live with muscular dystrophy conditions.

Any-one can follow Keeley and Connor’s progress and support them on their JustGiving page.

Their activities will be live over the week and weekend on: www.facebook.com Facebook page.
