We’re delighted to reveal the dates for our autumn Muscle Group meetings and would encourage you to sign up and join us.
Dates for Muscle Groups announced – come and join us
Local Muscle Groups are our network of support groups across the UK open to anyone living with a condition and their family, friends and carers.
They’re a great opportunity to share experiences and meet other people living with muscle wasting and weakening conditions in your area. The groups are a supportive and confidential space where you can ask questions, connect with others and find out more about the support we provide.
We run both in-person and online sessions across 10 regions of England and in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The latest round of free meet ups are a mix of in-person and virtual events taking place throughout September, October and November.
The importance of the muscle groups
Steve, who lives with Becker muscular dystrophy, has been our Southwest Muscle Group Chair for several years. He said: “The main reason I became a volunteer was to help change things for our community. I saw how much support Muscular Dystrophy UK offered and campaigned for, and I wanted to be part of that.
“I also wanted to make others feel less alone. A lot of people don’t understand that many forms of muscle weakening conditions are progressive. I’ve spent most of my life explaining to doctors, work, and friends how my condition affects me, which can be exhausting and frustrating. Being a muscle group chair means I can bring people together, so they don’t feel as alone.”
