Over 180 guests including a host of sporting legends joined our President, Gabby Logan on Wednesday 14 May for our 13th Celebrity Sports Quiz, raising more than £93,000.
Hosted in the Long Room at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, our 13th Celebrity Sports Quiz brought together over 180 guests and sporting greats from a range of disciplines with one common goal – to raise money to support people living with muscle wasting and weakening conditions.
This will help us fund groundbreaking research and life changing support for children and adults across the UK who are living with one of over 60 muscle wasting and weakening conditions.
The evening was hosted by our President Gabby Logan MBE and presenter Kirsty Gallacher. Sporting stars in attendance were broadcaster Clare Balding, American footballer Jason Bell, rugby player Kyran Bracken MBE,who was our auctioneer on the evening, multisport Olympian and Gladiators star Montell Douglas, rower Ric Egington, footballer Bethany England, rugby player Heather Fisher, swimmer Mark Foster, rugby player and Gladiators star Alex Gray, athlete Desiree Henry, rugby player Charlie Hodgson, wheelchair rugby player Freya Levy, athlete Eilish McColgan, trampoline gymnast Bryony Page, cricketer Monty Panesar, swimmer Karen Pickering MBE, athlete Michael Rimmer, heptathlete Kelly Sotherton MBE, rower Vicky Thornley, rugby player Rory Underwood MBE DL, paralympic athlete Richard Whitehead MBE, and BMX racer Kye Whyte.
Guests heard from our CEO Andy Fletcher and there was a live auction hosted by Kyran Bracken, as well as the quiz itself and an online auction with over 40 lots to bid on. But the highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the inspirational speech by Jed Thirkettle who lives with Ullrich congenital muscular dystrophy and spoke about his experiences growing up with a muscle wasting condition. Following Jed’s speech, over £13,000 was pledged, helping to bring the overall fundraising total for the night to £93,355.
