We were very saddened to learn that Charles Scott, a longstanding supporter and member of our Board of Trustees, sadly died on Wednesday 7 January 2026.
In memory of Charles Scott
Charles made a significant contribution to the charity over many years. He was a key member of the Q Trust committee, a fund working tirelessly to raise funds and increase awareness, and a driving force in pushing forward the MDUK Oxford Neuromuscular Centre.
As one of our Trustees, he provided great support and insight throughout his time on the Board, never more crucially than through the COVID-19 pandemic when the charity faced huge challenges. Charles was a key member of the Emergency Committee whose priority was to protect the charity, meeting regularly to make decisions at pace during such unprecedented times.
While he stepped down as a Trustee at the end of his term in October 2025, Charles remained a member of our Finance Committee, bringing his longstanding investment and finance experience to the charity.
But perhaps most importantly, he was a passionate and constant supporter of our community and always brought conversations back to the needs of individuals and families – backing our mission to improve lives through research, support and advocacy.
Charles was a familiar face at our fundraising events, not only a fiercely competitive participant at our Celebrity Sports Quiz as well as the Q Trust Quiz, but also supporting the team behind the scenes, offering advice and contacts to ensure the events were a success. He never missed an opportunity to promote us as a charity and raise awareness for the community. He was always brimming with ideas and excited by the potential of change and making a difference to people’s lives. Most recently he was a guest at our Vice President’s lunch in December where he took time to chat with the team to share his opinions, discuss upcoming events and how he could support with the new strategy.
Charles has been an important part of Muscular Dystrophy UK for many years, and we’ll always be grateful for his time and support. His calm approach and good sense of humour made him a great colleague and friend to staff, supporters and Trustees. He will be sorely missed.
Our thoughts are with Charles’s family and friends at this time.
