Securing change

It’s essential that the new Government tackles the barriers and challenges our community face so everyone can get the healthcare, support and treatments needed to feel good, mentally and physically, and can live independently.

We need your help to ensure that MPs and the new Government put people with muscle wasting and weakening conditions at the top of their agenda.

Your voice matters

Tell your MP why our #MusclesMatter.

MPs are often best persuaded to take action after hearing the lived experiences of their constituents. Sharing your story is a powerful way to influence them.

MPs can stand up for everyone with muscle wasting and weakening conditions in a number of ways, from joining our All Party Parliamentary Group, to asking questions in Parliament and holding the Government to account.

By gaining the support of as many MPs as possible, we can change the future of muscle wasting conditions.

OUR TOP TIPS

General tips
  • Find out who your local MP is and get in touch easily through the website WriteToThem
  • Share your personal story! Talking about your personal experience with muscle wasting and weakening conditions is incredibly powerful.
  • Attend any face-to-face meetings if you are able to. Physically meeting with MPs makes a big difference to how much they remember about your requested actions.
  • Don’t forget, collaborating with others locally when campaigning is more effective than doing it alone, and it’s also less daunting. Together we are stronger.
  • Keep us updated. We want to hear about everything you’re doing to engage with MPs and what you’ve heard back. Pictures, emails, letters. Everything!
Tips for writing to MPs
  • Use our template letter as a starting point to congratulate your new MP.
  • Keep any written correspondence with MPs short so they’re not reading pages of a letter when they’re busy setting up a new office.
  • Let MPs know you’re a constituent. In emails or letters, always remember to include your name and address.
  • Save any correspondence you receive back so you can follow up on actions they promised.

  • Think about the issues you want to talk about in advance. Check out our manifesto for muscles for inspiration.
  • There is always time for questions so having a few ideas ready helps put your thoughts and words into shape ready for when you meet.
  • Take pictures! Make sure you get consent from everyone in the photo before you share them. Feel free to share any pictures with us, or tag us on social media
