Steven's driving force

Steve Harper, who lives with facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), has used his condition as a motivation for supporting MDUK and it led to his business, Driving Force Couriers, becoming a corporate partner of the charity.

"I was diagnosed with FSHD when I was 17 and studying for my A-Levels. It didn’t affect me that greatly to begin with as I was young and carefree, but as I have gotten older it has become far more noticeable and I find myself having to make little day to day adjustments to how I do things to make things as ‘normal’ as possible.

"I now have two young boys (who keep me on my toes!) that could yet inherit it from me, and this is one of the main driving forces behind me wanting to support MDUK and do as much as I can to help find a cure for this disease.

"I did not let my condition slow me down and in 2005 I bought my first van and Driving Force Couriers was born. We have grown steadily through the years, battling through a recession and more recently COVID-19, which we are yet to see the back of! We purchased our first lorry back in 2014 and during the last two years bought three more, the latest of which is adorning the colours of MDUK and proudly displaying their logo in a bid to raise the profile of the charity.

"I look forward to a long and successful relationship with MDUK and we will do our best to contribute in as many ways as we can."
