It's Game On: “It’s a great way to make a difference while doing something I love.”

5 May 2022

Rianna has been a keen gamer since she was younger and decided to fundraise for MDUK for the cause close to her heart.

I have been gaming since I was 10-years-old when congenital myasthenic syndrome, a rare type of myasthenia gravis, started to affect my mobility. This led me to start using a wheelchair, and gaming allowed me to socialise with friends and have fun.

I wanted to take part in Game On as it seemed fitting that I could do something I love while also raising money for MDUK.

My Game On fundraiser took involved a 12-hour gaming marathon, raising £228 in total. I played one game on my own and my friends joined me for quizzes, drawing games and horror games, making the 12-hours fly by

MDUK made it really simple and fun to take part by having a simple sign-up process and explaining how to link my fundraising page to my gaming stream. This enabled me to see live donations coming in and kept me motivated throughout the marathon.

To anyone considering taking part, I would definitely recommend it! It’s a great way to raise money while having fun, and you can even play interactive games to get the audience involved.

MDUK is a special charity to me as they offered me a lifeline through work experience during a time university hadn’t gone to plan and I was suffering with anxiety and depression. This placement gave me my confidence back to use my wheelchair and go on public transport, and I also gained transferrable research and database skills and talked to supporters on the phone.
