Equipment: "The donation we received was invaluable"

Equipment is fundamental to getting the right physical support for your condition. But new powered wheelchairs, adapted computers and electric beds can all come with hefty price tags.

The Joseph Patrick Trust is Muscular Dystrophy UK’s grant-giving arm, and has already helped 5000 people in the last 30 years, and you can apply for help funding specialist mobility equipment not available on the NHS.

Adam Sevenoaks, 11, from Weymouth, has Duchenne muscular dystrophy and plays powerchair football for the Wessex Warriors. He needed a specialist Strike Force Powerchair to stay on top of his game and compete on an even playing field with other players. The Joseph Patrick Trust was able to help with a grant towards the cost of Adam’s chair, and he’s now able to play to the best of his ability in the South East Regional League.

Adam’s mum Mary said:

“Adam has always loved football but due to his condition has never been able to play, until he found the Wessex Warriors Power Chair Football club.

“The donation we received from the Joseph Patrick Trust was invaluable in helping raise the money for Adam to have his own Strike Force chair. The chair has given him immense confidence in playing football and he loves it!”
