Today, Monday 15 June, we’re excited to announce the launch of our new Home Equipment Grant Fund.
New grant fund available for home equipment
Living with a muscle wasting condition can often mean needing access to vital specialist equipment to live safely and independently at home. Having the right equipment can be life-changing, and makes a big difference in supporting independence, comfort and safety.
But we know that accessing and funding equipment can sometimes be challenging and vary greatly across the UK.
This new grant fund will help people with muscle wasting conditions access essential home equipment to meet their needs, supporting them to live more independently every day.
Our Home Equipment Grant Fund helps fund essential equipment including:
- Profiling beds
- Hoists
- Bathroom equipment
- Ramps and access aids
These new grants are possible thanks to the Property Impact Fund, which is supported by several events, including the Microscope Ball, organised and attended by members of the commercial property industry.
Michelle Anthony, Trustee and Chair of the Microscope Ball Committee, said: “The partnership between the property industry and Muscular Dystrophy UK began in 1983 with one father’s determination to make a difference. Following his son’s diagnosis with muscular dystrophy, he brought together colleagues and industry contacts to raise funds for research and support. More than four decades later, that single act of generosity has grown into an extraordinary industry-wide commitment, with over £8 million raised to support people living with muscle wasting conditions.
“It is a privilege to be part of the Microscope Ball Committee and to help continue this remarkable legacy. While significant progress has been made, there is still much more to do. Muscular Dystrophy UK is committed to reaching more people, providing vital support, and accelerating research that can transform lives—and that requires the continued backing of our industry.
“The new Home Equipment Grant Fund is a powerful example of the tangible difference these fundraising efforts can make. By providing essential equipment such as ramps, hoists and bathroom adaptations, the fund will help create more accessible homes and enable people to live with greater independence, dignity and confidence.
“Together, we have the opportunity to make a lasting impact. Every contribution helps ensure that more people living with muscle-wasting conditions can overcome barriers, achieve greater independence, and live their lives to the fullest.”
